Heat-Strengthened Glass
Heat-strengthened glass is more resistant to mechanical loads and thermal stresses than standard glass. Compared to fully tempered glass, it has lower strength and a different breakage pattern. Camglass offers heat-strengthened glass options for façade and insulating glass applications in line with the project’s technical requirements.
When broken, it forms larger fragments. In suitable framing systems, this breakage pattern helps the glass remain in the frame, which can reduce the risk of falling fragments. Post-breakage behaviour is assessed together with the glass dimensions and fixing system.
The risk of spontaneous breakage caused by nickel sulphide is lower than with fully tempered glass. Heat-strengthened glass is not a safety glass on its own; in applications requiring safety, it is used in suitable laminated glass combinations.
Key Features
Safe Breakage
Helps fragments stay in place in the event of breakage, reducing the risk of falling glass.
High Visual Quality
Offers a clearer appearance with lower surface distortion.
Thermal Resistance
Provides resistance to thermal shock and reduces the need for additional testing.
Related Production Processes
Glass preparation and heat treatment: Heat strengthening after cutting, edge grinding and drilling or CNC processing according to the fixing detail.
Glass combinations: Lamination or insulating glass assembly according to the build-up defined in the project.
